Northwest Hospital relies on the energy, expertise and kindness of its dedicated volunteers. Our volunteers spend countless hours visiting our patients as well as working in the gift shop and in offices. Northwest Hospital has volunteers from high school/college students to senior adults.

How do I become a volunteer?
Community members who are interested in volunteering at Northwest Hospital, must complete the following steps:
- Complete an application
- Interview with the Volunteer Manager
- Obtain a TB test
- Attend OSHA training and volunteer orientation
- Agree to a criminal background check
Northwest Hospital requires adult volunteers to commit to a minimum of 100 hours. Volunteers are required to work one three-hour shift once a week, however multiple weekly shifts are available.
Is there a teen volunteer program?
Northwest Hospital has several volunteer opportunities for students in the community, including school-based internship programs and summer volunteering programs. Northwest Hospital requires teen volunteers to commit to a minimum of 100 hours. During the school year, student volunteers serve three-hour shifts during the school year and four-hour shifts during the summer.
- Student Volunteer Internship Program
Northwest Hospital offers an internship program to high school seniors. The program, in conjunction with local high schools, provides students the opportunity to fulfill workplace experience requirements. Depending on the high school's program, hours and requirements vary. Northwest presently has interns from New Town High School, Milford Mills High School, Randallstown High School and Western School of Technology and Environmental Services.
Students interesting in participating in the Internship Program should contact their school's Guidance Office for further information.
- Summer Student Volunteer Program
Northwest Hospital welcomes high school students, 15 years or old and have completed the ninth grade to volunteer during the summer. Student volunteers spend their time in a variety of different departments in the hospital including Medical Records, Rehabilitation, Emergency Room, Operating Rooms, Radiology, Nursing Units and the Post-Operative Unit.
Summer Student Volunteer packets are available in March. Students wishing to apply can stop by the Volunteer Services office at Northwest Hospital or call 410 521-5911 for more information.
